So, We've Met, Now What?

A 12oz Clovered Hacienda La Esmeralda

I went for a cup of Clovered Hacienda La Esmeralda on a tip-off from MikeP. I asked and ordered a 12oz-er before looking at the price. I almost had a heart attack when I saw how much it was, but too late to back off without embarrassing myself.

The guy who made my coffee let me see the coffee beans and allowed me to take a few whiffs before brewing it. I took my coffee up to my friend’s condo, which happened to be right above Intelly, and I shared it among the people at the party. Those who tasted, liked it. Some said it was sweet, citrusy (orange zest), and creamy (as if the cream was added).

To me, it was sweet, nutty, citrusy, and surprisingly with heavy syrupy body from such lightly roasted beans.

This coffee is not for everyone, by that I mean, this is for only the hardcore, plus 3 standard deviations coffee people, similar to those who pay hundreds if not thousands of dollars for a bottle of wine, Scotch, or whatever. I am none of the above, and I can be easily satisfied with a nicely brewed cup of coffee.

holy cow. that's like $1 a sip. nice of you to share it with others! i'm glad you got to try it. (the "reviews" i've seen make me wonder: if they drank it without knowing the price, would they rave so much?)

Actually I told them about the price afterwards...Yeah, I am sneaky that way...This sure is a conversation starter...

yes, we would. i have been a huge fan of this coffee since 2004, when it went for a fraction of its current price. this coffee has more than a double bouquet --- by which i mean a good specialty coffee will have rich bouquet through all 4 parts. this geisha has basically 8 sensations!

it's an amazing coffee. i am suprised to see so many coffee bloggers talk this coffee down, often it seems, without having tried it.

to me this just re-emphasizes the need to develop and promote basic cupping skills among consumers and coffee lovers.

I hope I was not perceived as dissing this terrific coffee in any way. With its heavy price tag, I doubt I’ll buy myself another cup. There are too many great coffee for me to savor at a fraction of the cost for Hacienda La Esmeralda, unless someone buys me one... : )

Hey Steve, sorry, I should have mentioned the price listed in the Intelly email, might have saved you some "sticker shock"!

Hey, Mike,

I am sorry that I got you involved in this. I just realized what I did. So you know, I am glad that you told me about this coffee on clover, and I am happy that I tried it.

Cheers!
